Welcome to the application for the 2026 Design Thinking Seminar with the Georgia College and State University during Summer Term 2026! For more information about the seminar, please head here (link will open in new window).

After you started the application, you can interrupt and continue at any time. For this, you have to provide a username and a password. If you like, you can receive an email with the username. The password will not be sent via email!

Privacy Policy - Seminar Application

This Privacy Policy explains how your personal data will be collected, used, and protected when you submit your application for the 2026 Design Thinking Seminar seminar offered by the University of Münster. We are committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

2. What Data We Collect

We collect the following personal data through this LimeSurvey application:

  • Name: First Name, Last Name to be able to address participants
  • Matriculation number: In case of acceptance: To be able to align the applicant with the study programme
  • University account: To be able to align the applicant with the IT systems of the University for enrollement
  • Email Address: This is essential for contact regarding your application.
  • Home Address: This will be used for ERASMUS funding, if the application is approved.
  • Date of birth: The seminar will be offered only to 18 year old (or older) students
  • Field of study: The seminar is only available for students of a certain study programme
  • Information about completion of the first year: This is a precondition to participate.
  • Grading overview: This will be part of the decision-supporting elements
  • Curriculum Vitae: This will be part of the decision-supporting elements
  • Motivation letter: This will be part of the decision-supporting elements
  • Information about social top-up eligibility: This will help estimating expected costs for the organizers
  • Availabilty: This will demonstrate committment of the student to the cause
  • Undertanding of US Entry requirements: This will release the organizers from liabilities related to the immigration into the US
  • Language proficiency: This is a requirement to be accepted
  • Pictures: This is a requirement to be accepted
  • Recommendation for travel health ensurance: This is to make the applicant consider to get a travel health ensureance
  • Possession of drivers license: This information helps the organizers to plan the trip

3. Purpose of Data Processing

We collect your data solely for the purpose of evaluating applications for participation in the 2026 Design Thinking Seminar. This includes:

  • Assessing your suitability based on your answers to the survey questions.
  • Informing selected candidates about their acceptance.
  • Maintaining a record of applicants in order to facilitate communication.

We will not use your data for any other purpose without your explicit consent.

4. Legal Basis for Processing

The legal basis for processing your personal data is Legitimate Interest: We have a legitimate interest in fairly assessing applications in order to select suitable participants for the seminar. Your data also simplifies the process following the application. This interest is balanced against your right to privacy.

5. Data Sharing

Your data will only be shared with:

  • Lecturers in Münster Involved in the Seminar: Access will be restricted to those lecturers directly involved in the selection process (Dr. Armin Stein, Dr. Katrin Bergener). Access will be controlled and documented.

We will not share your data with any third parties outside of these individuals/departments without your explicit consent.

6. Data Retention

We will retain your data for the duration of the seminar application process (until candidates are selected and informed). We will then securely delete your data, in accordance with GDPR Article 5(1)(b). If you withdraw your application before selection, your data will be deleted with the other data after the application process. We expect this to be no later than December 31st, 2025.

7. Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right to Access: You have the right to request access to the personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to Rectification: You have the right to request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Right to Erasure: You have the right to request deletion of your data (subject to legal obligations).
  • Right to Restriction of Processing: You have the right to request restriction of processing under certain circumstances.
  • Right to Data Portability: You have the right to receive your data in a structured, commonly used, and machine-readable format.
  • Right to Object: You have the right to object to the processing of your data under certain circumstances.
